Gabriela Giroletti (b. 1982, Brazil) is a Brazilian painter, living and working in London. In 2018, she received her MFA in Painting (distinction) from the UCL, Slade School of Fine Art. In 2015, Giroletti graduated with a BA in Fine Arts (first class) from Middlesex University in London. In her work, she explores the relationship between the painted image (the meaning, the immaterial, the metaphor, the mind) and the material presence in the painting (the corporeal, the touch, the physical presence, the body). Deliberately ambiguous, the paintings fluctuate between their crude materiality and their metaphysical aspect, encouraging the viewer to formulate peculiar connections with our tangible surroundings, as well as with individual and unique lived experience.
Her most recent solo exhibitions include Mingling Currents (2023) at Kristin Hjellegjerde, London, and Moons (2023) at Commonage Projects, London. From 2019 – 2020 she held a position as Research Associate at Slade School, investigating how different grounds influence and control the conception of a painting, advancing this research while on residency at Elephant Lab in February 2021. In 2024, Giroletti will have solo presentations in Paris, Palm Beach, and São Paulo.
